Mammalian Cell Culture

Manufacturing processes for therapeutic as well as diagnostic proteins employ mammalian cell culture methods as the complex nature of these proteins requires modifications only possible in mammalian cell systems such as glycosylation, for appropriate biological activity, biodistribution and pharmacokinetics.

Today more than 60% of biotherapeutics in the world are produced using mammalian cell systems.

These may involve different culture methods/techniques suitable for different process requirements, also involving a wide range of volumes.

An understanding of different cell culture methods such as Batch,Fed Batch and perfusion in terms culture characteristics such as cell density, cell viability, quantum of colloids, turbidity etc. and the associated advantages and problems, can help develop an effective process.
